We endeavour to promote the principles of sustainable development in all our operations. In practice, this means consideration for the environment in the planning and implementation of all harbour structures, the efficient use of energy and the proper collection, sorting and recycling of vessel slip and waste created through the harbour’s own operations.
During the year under review, environmental control was carried out in the Port of Kemi in accordance with the control and monitoring obligations required by the environmental permit. The emission inspections involved testing the quality of the water passing through the harbour’s rainwater drains. Emission testing on ships and overland traffic was implemented by measuring particle emissions. As required by the environmental permit, all results of the emission and usage surveys were sent to the Lapland Regional Environment Centre. The results were accepted without any remarks or complaints.
